This is now being marked as resolved - systems have been running as normal since 6PM.
An unexpected spike in CPU utilisation across multiple app services appears to have caused the underlying issue. As service performance was impacted during this period requests may have failed or taken longer than expected. This looks to have occurred between approximately 17:45 and 18:00 today. Requests have been served as expected since 18:00 - we will continue to monitor and engage Azure support in due course to identify why this has occurred across multiple separate server farms.
We are investigating a potential issue with the application services that may be causing performance issues and timeouts. An update will be posted shortly.
